Stasera provo a fare questo:
Once again I come out of hiding – to tell you that I have indeed fixed this “feature”. It’s actually a carrier specific setting that can be set, and it lives in your IPCC (iPhone Carrier Config file). This puts the responsibility on your carrier to enable or disable it.
You’ll pretty much need a Mac to do most of this.
- Make iTunes .ipcc update friendly again by issuing in Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE
Windows users, try Start > Run > “C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
If you know how to edit .ipcc files, skip to step 4.
- Get your carrier’s update file, the clean, unedited version. I did this for Optus via Terminal on my Mac via:
curl -s -L http://phobos.apple.com/version | grep -i optus
As of writing, these are the correct links.
Optus – http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/CarrierBundles/061-6670.20090612.2wedf/Optus_au.ipcc
Telstra – http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/CarrierBundles/061-5404.20080909.34bvoy/Telstra_au.ipcc
Vodafone – http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/CarrierBundles/061-4899.20091111.Bghyt/Vodafone_au.ipcc
On a Mac, rename the .ipcc to .zip, unzip the archive, right click the .bundle and “Show Package Contents”. Finally, open up carrier.plist (mine opens in Property List Editor as I have the Developer Tools installed).
The property key you want to check for / insert is under the tree ‘mms’, the key being ‘GroupModeEnabled’. If you don’t see this in your telco’s ipcc, just add it in. You want this set to a boolean data type and turned off. See screenshot.
Save the file, zip up the “Payload” directory and call it STUPIDBUG.ipcc (that’s a joke, call it whatever you like and make sure you keep the .ipcc extension).
Open iTunes, connect iPhone, option (Windows: shift) click on “Check for Update”, find your new .ipcc and away you go.
As I’m generous, here’s the fix for Optus/Telstra/Vodafone. I’ve also put in tethering fixes for Optus users. No guarantees that Telstra/Vodafone work, let me know.
